The church was lucky to miss the slum clearances that took place in Townhead during the 50s and 60s.
The style of the church is Gothic Revival, the tower was never completed and it does detract from the overall look of the church. The statue of Christ on the cross on the outside of the building is very striking.
The Architect was James Miller built in 1935 a rather severe looking building, the friezes that decorate the building are the highlight of the building, the friezes are by Gilbert Bayes who was an esteemed and prolific British sculptor whose long career spanned the Arts & Crafts era, the New Sculpture Movement, and the Art Deco period.
